#WhyIPMC guest blog by Stephanie Taylor, first-year Living Proof rider, Team Duncan

Last year, I was diagnosed with HER2 positive breast cancer. I was 39 years old. A working mom with two small kids, I was living a very busy and active life. I had yet to start my annual screening mammograms, since I wasn't yet 40. But one day in July, I felt a lump and when it was still there in August, I called my doctor. I don't think anyone is prepared for this, and I certainly wasn't prepared to hear the words 'invasive ductal carcinoma' while I stood in my office. But I am so grateful for the support I received after that moment, and still receive today.ST0196_STcoldcap_3_crop
My cousin had recently completed active treatment for breast cancer at Dana-Farber and suggested I see her oncologist- Phil Poorvu. I can't even begin to describe the incredible care and support that I had throughout this process- from diagnosis to treatment, and beyond. I was lucky enough to participate in a clinical trial and tolerated the treatment plan well. I kept up with my active life and continued to work. Then on February 14th (exactly 5 months from diagnosis) I had surgery, and a resulting complete response to treatment. I promised myself, and Dr. Poorvu, that if I had a pCR at surgery, I was joining Team Duncan and riding in the 2023 PMC. And on the day of my pCR results, I registered for the ride!
