New Balance Joins Red Sox Foundation as Co-Presenting Sponsor of the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge

BOSTON (March 24, 2010) — New Balance has joined the Red Sox Foundation as a co-presenting sponsor of the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC), the nation's most successful athletic fundraising event. The company has also been named the exclusive footwear and apparel sponsor for the charity biking event. The PMC is a one- or two-day bike-a-thon in which 5,000 cyclists ride one of 10 routes – up to 190 miles – across the Commonwealth. Now in its 31st year, the PMC has raised $270 million for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. The PMC aims to raise another $31 million in 2010. New Balance was a presenting sponsor of the 2008 Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC) Kids Rides and a PMC sponsor in 2009. "The New Balance sponsorship will go a long way in helping the PMC achieve its fund-raising goal," said PMC Founder and Executive Director Billy Starr. "It is due to corporate and in-kind sponsors that the PMC is able to contribute 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the Jimmy Fund," Starr said. "New Balance is proud to join the Red Sox Foundation in presenting the 2010 PMC," said New Balance President/CEO Rob DeMartini, who is a four-year PMC cyclist. "As a company, we have a long-standing commitment to promoting health and fitness and giving back to the local community so the PMC bike-a-thon is a great fit for us."  The PMC raises and donates more money to charity than any other athletic fundraising event in the nation. The PMC generated half of the Jimmy Fund's annual revenue. Nearly 3,000 people volunteer with the PMC year-round to support the August ride. "New Balance understands the PMC's ability to raise crucial funds for cancer research and we are grateful for their continued support," said Starr. "Having the New Balance brand behind the PMC is an honor and we hope to leverage their partnership to drive ridership and increase the final sum we are able to contribute to Dana-Farber."  About New Balance New Balance, headquartered in Boston, MA has the following mission: Demonstrating responsible leadership, we build global brands that athletes are proud to wear, associates are proud to create and communities are proud to host.  New Balance employs more than 4000 people around the globe, and in 2008 reported worldwide sales of $1.64 billion.  For more information please visit www.newbalance.comAbout the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge The PMC is a pioneer in the athletic fundraising event industry and today raises more money for charity than any other in the country.
