#WhyIPMC guest blog by Lydia Bogar, 10-year volunteer
Two weeks after my daughter Joanne’s death in 2013, a co-worker asked if he could ride the PMC in her memory. Dave DeMarco is a member of the Belmont Fire Department riding in honor of his mother in law’s treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. I readily agreed and scheduled our family afternoon at Babson.
My grandsons, then 4 and 9, met Dave and made signs. I gave Dave a family photo that he had requested; little did I know what that entailed until his ride was over.
As I walked around Mass Maritime Academy with a friend that Saturday, the spirit of hope and love captured my heart.
This year will be my 10th as a PMC volunteer, continuing my daughter’s legacy of helping to find a cure so some other little boys’ Momma doesn’t lose her fight.
