Why I PMC - Justin Unger

#WhyIPMC guest blog by Justin Unger, 3-year rider, Team Domestiques

I was first introduced to the PMC when my dad received his life-saving stem cell transplant at Dana-Farber. My dad was always a big cyclist and his first request when he checked in at DFCImoney shot cover was to get a stationary bike in his room. Throughout his entire transplant and recovery, he always found the strength to hop on the bike and pedal.

Two years later, in the fall of 2020, my mother was also diagnosed with Lymphoma and successfully completed her radiation at New England Cancer Specialists, a Dana-Farber affiliate.

I can now say that both of my parents have a clean bill of health thanks to the life-saving research, treatment and support of the DFCI network.

This year, my 3rd PMC, our team has grown from 8 riders to 34 riders strong! This year is extra special as it will be the first year my dad will be joining the team as a rider and Living Proof! Along-side the full roster of 34 Domestiques, I will be riding with both my dad and brother. Team finish

Our team name is the Domestiques...In road bicycle racing, a domestique is a rider who works for the benefit of his or her team and leader, rather than trying to win the race...Where the domestique finishes a race is less important than the help he gives. This is a group of riders coming together to help raise money for DFCI. Where we finish the race is less important than the help we are giving and the money we will raise.
