Why I PMC - Jonathan DeIulis

Topic:   Why I PMC

#WhyIPMC guest blog by Jonathan DeIulis, 8-year rider, Team Daisy/Summit Partners

Dana-Farber has been part of my life for over 20 years, and it has given me more than I could ever begin to repay.  they cared for my Mimi when she was initially diagnosed, and they continue to see her now, and for my Mom who we sadly lost after her battle with melanoma back in 2000.

Through all of the time and care that was provided my family got:

  • An extra summer on the Cape with many sunsets and beach days with my mom and our family - it was and still is the place where I feel closest to her, a little slice of heaven indeed
  • Many high school and college graduations, confirmations, birthdays, and several wedding days (including my own) with our Mimi - always present and smiling with joy and pride for her 10 grandchildren and growing group of great grandchildren

It's for these reasons and more that I decided to sign up for my first PMC back in 2013 after myPMC Blog 2 Uncle, who was an 8 time PMCer, told me of the joys that he experienced during his many rides from Babson to Provincetown during an Easter Brunch. I signed up for my very first ride that night as soon as I arrived back home.

To date I've completed the ride 7 times alongside another one of my Uncles (a 13 time PMCer himself), and will be preparing for my 8th ride this summer where my cousin will be completing his maiden voyage alongside us. It has truly become a family tradition for us, one that I hope continues on for many more years. In short Dana-Farber has made many of the biggest and happiest parts of my life POSSIBLE. No amount of mileage, sweat, or even tears could possibly repay what it has given to me and my family, but I'm trying even the balance little by little - or more accurately mile by mile.

PMC_BlogI wish my story was one in a million, but it's not - in time I hope and pray that this story is one that gives a family the hope and comfort that there is hope and that there's a miracle waiting for someone.

Until then I'm going to keep peddling towards a miracle, and with any luck we'll be one mile closer after 2020.
