In 2008, Angus McQuilken, of Wellesley Hills, Mass., was diagnosed with colon-cancer.

Thanks to all of the doctors and nurses who cared for him first at Newton/Wellesley Hospital and then at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, this May will mark his fifth year cancer free and this August will mark his fifth consecutive ride in the Pan-Mass Challenge.

As a tribute to Dana-Farber and cancer survivors everywhere, on Aug. 3 and 4 McQuilken will ride 190 miles from Sturbridge to Provincetown as a Living Proof cyclist. McQuilken serves as Vice President of the New England Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, and each year he joins PMC Founder and Executive Director Billy Starr in leading a champagne toast to the living proof riders and volunteers at the PMC overnight location in Bourne.

McQuilken rides and raises money as part of Team Kermit, a group of more than 50 PMC cyclists of varying ages and experience levels who represent 12 Massachusetts towns and travel from New York, Oregon, Vermont, Washington, California and Texas to participate. At the heart of the team is Kermit the Frog who serves as both a helmet accessory and a symbol of dedication, determination, passion and courage. Kermit the Frog was the favorite childhood character of the team captain’s late son Jared who succumbed to cancer.

On Saturday, June 29, McQuilken was among the cancer survivors and PMC cyclists who rode his bicycle around the warning track in a pre-game ceremony as part of PMC Night at Fenway Park. A four-year Heavy Hitter, to date he has raised nearly $31,400 for the cause.
