#WhyIPMC guest blog by Christina Harrington, 14-year participant (PMC rider, PMC volunteer, Winter Cycle rider)

My name is Christina Harrington,  I live in Halifax, MA.  I am a 14-year PMC volunteer and decided to finally try a ride.  I will never forget the first year I started my wonderful journey with PMC.  AHarrington2 little girl was the guest speaker.  She was the sweetest, most grateful little girl.  She thanked us because Dana-Farber was currently saving her life and she loved her friends there.   I remember thinking why is she sick?  Why is this happening to this innocent little life?  Why does this happen to anyone?    How is she so positive and grateful?  She was such an incredible little human and thankfully she survived due to the innovation in cancer research!

The PMC is a remarkable fundraiser.   As a long time volunteer, it’s amazing how everyone comes together to support.  Volunteers, riders, community, survivors, supporters, it’s simply amazing!  I support PMC as a survivor and also for many family members and friends who have battled this horrible disease, some sadly in loving memory.  Hopefully, this funded research by PMC will continue to improve treatments and someday find a cure.

I ride for my mom who thankfully survived her very aggressive cancer and treatments.  I will never forget the scariest days of my life, hearing those very terrifying words “you have cancer”.  The journey with my mom seemed impossible until she won!  She is my hero and an inspiration.

I feel blessed she is still with us, I feel blessed I am still with us and I’m grateful for cancer research.  This life is truly a gift, every minute of it.  I’m grateful we are still together on this earth, sharing this life and building more memories each day.

Love,
Christina xo
