Register to be a PMC volunteer

Published Date:   March 18, 2010

Topic:   Press Releases

From massaging cyclists' sore muscles to sorting luggage, making sandwiches, providing medical support and fixing fat tires, Pan-Massachusetts Challenge volunteers do it all.  More than 3,000 volunteers fill jobs that are typically paid positions, enabling the PMC to pass on 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  Volunteers work together, around-the-clock all weekend long, in the hot summer sun, to ensure riders' needs are met.

2009 PMC Volunteers

In 2009, there were 3,010 volunteers and almost 200 of them were cancer survivors.  The benefits of volunteering include helping those in need, developing new skills, improving existing talents, making a difference in the lives of cancer patients, and forming new friendships.  Volunteer for the 31st Annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge! Volunteers have a lot of fun PMC weekend! The riders and staff are eternally grateful for their efforts.  The PMC needs volunteers to help with set-up, luggage transportation, registration, medical support, massages, bike mechanics, security, food service, and clean-up between Aug. 6 and 8. Volunteers work at stops all along the PMC route -- Sturbridge, Wellesley, Lakeville, Dighton and Provincetown. Visit our volunteer page for info on locations, times, crew descriptions and opportunities to volunteer all year-round.

Returning volunteers and newcomers can register now.  Volunteers must be age 13 or older. No experience necessary. Click here to review requirements for each volunteer site. Time commitments vary based on the job assignment and volunteer availability.  There is also the opportunity to volunteer and raise money for the PMC by registering as a virtual rider or signing up for the one-day ride. Saturday volunteers can ride from Bourne to Wellesley on Sunday.    Questions? Call (800) WE-CYCLE and ask to speak with Sarah Licht, director of volunteers.
