PMC Pedal Partners bring the cause close to home

Ever year on PMC weekend, hundreds of children and their families gather at the Lakeville water stop along the PMC route for the annual Pedal Partner Picnic. These children are all young oncology patients at Dana-Farber's Jimmy Fund Clinic. But on this day they are the biggest PMC cheerleaders. Armed with markers, crayons and poster board, the children make signs and banners and cheer on the riders as they come in – having already gone more than 80 miles on route to the day one finish line in Bourne. The teams of riders come in and they find their Pedal Partner for a little one on one inspiration. It's just what the tired and sore riders need to pedal that last 25 miles. Check out this great story on Pedal Partner Bennett Hartley and Team 9 from WBZ TV news, who spent some time with us in Lakeville on Saturday. For the children and their families it's a welcome distraction from talk of cancer, treatments and health. They get to run around, play games, make crafts and just enjoy being a kid. This year there was extra special visitor to the Pedal Partner Picnic. Lance Armstrong, riding in his first and not his last PMC, stopped and spent some time taking photos and signing autographs for the dozens of kids who arrived early for a chance to meet this super star cyclist and cancer survivor.

It was truly a special moment when Armstrong and Senator John Kerry gathered all the Pedal Partners around them for a photo op.

Armstrong even gave a shout out to the Pedal Partners during this interview with NESN.

Lance spent lots of time interacting with the kids!

Armstrong and Sen. John Kerry were among the very first riders to finish the 110 mile ride from Sturbirdge to Bourne.
