Planning a PMC Fundraising Event? Tips from Eventbrite

Published Date:   February 11, 2014

Topic:   Press Releases

Congratulations! Not only have you committed to training and completion of the Pan-Mass Challenge, but you’re geared up to fundraise for the PMC! Fundraising can be a challenge. Create an experience for your donors in the form of a fundraising event.

Why A Fundraising Event?

Events offer yet another, effective offline fundraising stream outside of online solicitations. Live, social experiences equate to value, as well as an opportunity to attract additional donors who may not have contributed otherwise. Events create another opportunity for you to collect donations from people who have already contributed. People like to support in more ways than one!

What Type of Event?

Possibilities for fundraising events are endless! Think about your hobbies, interests, and personal and professional connections and integrating those into your event. Also take into consideration seasonality, themes, and holidays. Examples of successful fundraising events include (but not limited to!): bar night + silent auction, house party, yoga class, spinathon, St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl, and countless others!

Why Use Eventbrite?

There are many benefits to using Eventbrite, but bottom line: Eventbrite streamlines much of your event planning process. Send invites through our invitation feature and get people committed to attending your event early by collecting payment in advance. Check people in at your event by using our Eventbrite Entry Manager app, and send a Thank You email via the Eventbrite platform.

Ten Tips for Success

Eventbrite makes it fun and easy to reach your fundraising goals. If you don’t know where to start, here are some essential tips to ensure success in your next event.

1 - Work from small to large – Depending on how much money you need to raise, it could take a combination of events to achieve your goal. Start with some “quick wins” before you take on a bigger more elaborate event.

2 - Choose events that work for you – What are you already doing? Build on your current hobbies, clubs and interests. Tie into seasonal themes, holidays and annual events that people already plan around.

3 - Make a plan – Start with your goal, create a timeline, and start breaking the plan down into small steps.

4 - Team up – You don’t have to do this alone. It’s more fun and much easier when you get a group of friends together to help.

5 - Use online registration – Get the word out about your event in advance and get early commitment from your friends. Plus, by collecting money in advance, you’ll minimize your risk. Sell merchandise and other add-ons to boost donations in one transaction.

6 - Master the ticketing life cycle – People naturally procrastinate, but don’t let them. By tracking attendance online, you can respond quickly to find new ways to promote your event whether it’s through email, Facebook, Twitter or word-of-mouth marketing.

7 - Create a great registration page – Make people excited about attending your event with complete and compelling information. Also, offer multiple opportunities to participate, including tickets at various levels, and a way to donate if they can’t attend.

8 - Understand that events are inherently social – One Facebook share equates to $7 in future donations. Take advantage of social media and its multiplier effect to reach friends of friends.

10 - Have a Plan B – Make sure to pre-test ideas with friends to check appeal and price. And if you start down a path, and it doesn’t look promising, then switch to Plan B so you can maximize your return on effort!
