Event Update from Billy Starr – March 19, 2020

Published Date:   March 19, 2020

Topic:   PMC News

Dear PMC riders and volunteers,

The Pan-Mass Challenge is closely following developments around COVID-19. Because the situation is fluid, we will need to continually adjust. We are fortunate that it is more than four months until PMC weekend and, at this point, we are planning for PMC weekend to proceed.

However, the following Spring events have either been postponed or canceled:

  • All Kids Rides through the end of May
  • Both Rider Orientation sessions - digital resources to be available soon
  • April 25: Pedal Partner Party at Fenway Park
  • May 8: Heavy Hitter Evening

We are obviously aware of the financial impact and uncertainty that many people face due to the economic fallout. Therefore, we are reducing all 2020 fundraising minimums by 20%.The Heavy Hitter level and Top 10% plateau will remain unchanged, reflecting our continued commitment to do everything we can to advance the fight against cancer.

For now, we are asking all PMCers to stay the course and, as part of your “new normal” regime, keep our shared goals in sight. Riding a bike outdoors is a very healthy and safe activity in the COVID-19 climate. Our collective mission to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute will continue to provide a much-needed emotional boost while delivering hope to all whose lives are impacted by cancer. Many thanks to you all. In this challenging time we appreciate the PMC community more than ever.

Closer by the Mile,

Billy Starr
