Jeff Rimpas took his Pan-Massachusetts Challenge jersey and a road sign to the base of the Acropolis when he visited his daughter, Madeleine, in Greece during her fall 2008 semester abroad. "I thought it would be fun to have the PMC jersey photographed in front of well-known (and far from Massachusetts) landmarks," says Jeff.
The PMC rides through Athens!
Jeff and Madeleine spent 10 days exploring the country. One of the highlights of the trip was walking around the streets of Kalamata, Greece where Jeff's father was born. "We learned so much about our family's history and the culture of the country," says Madeleine. Madeleine is studying physical therapy at Ithaca College. While in Greece (Rhodes), she fulfilled general education requirements as part of a program that emphasized experiencing the Greek lifestyle. She toured the country with other students, and immersed herself in the history and culture of Greece. When Jeff visited Madeleine, they explored Rhodes, and then went on a road trip through Southern Greece and the Peloponnesian Peninsula. "The trip was such a fun adventure and one we'll never forget!" says Madeleine. Jeff serves as the PMC's Wellesley site coordinator. He has volunteered for the PMC for the past 19 years, ridden 15 of the years (the last 10 of which have been the Saturday one-day ride). Madeleine has volunteered for 14 years, and has ridden in the event four times. Jeff's wife, Deb, and their son, Jackson, have also been involved in the PMC for many years, both as volunteers and riders.
