boston magazine billy starr 120-power-2024"Starr’s annual community bike ride has, through the force of his own personality and perseverance, become an iconic symbol of both Boston’s charitable spirit and its elite medical status," Boston Magazine reported. "The event is the most successful athletic fundraiser in the world and provides the largest share of funding for both the Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Now in its 45th year, with thousands of cyclists covering routes all over the eastern half of the state, it’s expected to surpass $1 billion raised in total for cancer research and treatment this year."

Founded by Starr in 1980, the PMC has raised $972 million for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute since 1980, positioning the PMC to cross a monumental $1 billion in cumulative fundraising for Dana-Farber in 2024.

And Starr is not the only PMCer on the list of the most influential Bostonians.
