Topic:   Press Releases

STRATFORD, Conn – Athletic Brewing Company is excited to announce the beginning of a five-year partnership as the non-alcoholic beer of the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC). Athletic is proud to join the organization’s community of impassioned cyclists, volunteers and generous donors to support life-saving cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Athletic’s craft non-alcoholic beers are perfect for healthy and active adults. As the non-alcoholic beer of the PMC, Athletic will have a beverage tent for riders and volunteers to enjoy at several hub spots along the 192-mile route: Sturbridge (August 2), Mass Maritime Academy (August 3) and the Provincetown Inn (August 4).

“The Pan-Mass Challenge is the gold-standard of athletic fundraising, and we couldn’t be prouder to support the PMC mission,” said Bill Shufelt, founder of Athletic Brewing Company. “Our non-alcoholic craft beers are brewed for the active adult who loves great beer and a refreshing drink that will support their performance and pursuit of an active life.”

Made from four all-natural ingredients and all organic grains, the beers are high in potassium, calcium, magnesium and have naturally occurring electrolytes. At only 50-70 calories, they won’t derail your performance, enjoyment or hydration. Handcrafted in their new state-of-the-art brewery in Stratford, CT, Athletic Brewing Company plans to revolutionize a corner of the store that hasn't changed in decades with our multiple award-winning beers.

“We are excited to welcome Athletic Brewing Company to the PMC family,” said Glynn Hawley, PMC Director of Provisions and Logistics. “We’re grateful for their support and know our riders and volunteers will enjoy celebrating their efforts with a beverage that will support their recovery and performance throughout the weekend.”

The PMC is the nation’s single most successful athletic fundraising event, having raised more than $654 million for Dana-Farber since its inception in 1980, including $56 million last year alone. On August 3 and 4, more than 6,700 cyclists and 4,000 volunteers will participate in the 40thPMC with the common goal of raising $60 million to support life-saving cancer research and treatment. If the organization reaches its goal, an additional $1 million has been pledged by Overstock.com CEO and cancer survivor Patrick Byrne. One hundred percent of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to the cause and the PMC is Dana-Farber’s largest single contributor, accounting for more than 55 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s (Dana-Farber’s fundraising arm) annual revenue.

About The Pan-Mass Challenge:
The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is a yearly bike-a-thon that has raised more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the world. The PMC was founded in 1980 by Billy Starr, who remains the event’s executive director, an annual cyclist and a fundraiser. The PMC has since raised $654 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. The PMC generates more than 55 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue and is Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. The PMC has successfully melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors and individual contributors. All are essential to the PMC's goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. The PMC’s hope and aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber's doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures for all cancers.
