A Recap - PMC Day at Fenway

The June 19 Red Sox vs. LA Dodgers game was a game to remember for both the audience (what a finish in the 9th inning) and for the 31 cancer survivors and Pan-Massachusetts Challenge cyclists who were honored during a pre-game ceremony.

Prior to the start of the game, Pan-Mass Challenge cyclists, volunteers, and their families came together at Fenway Park to honor those who battled cancer and are dedicated to riding in the Pan-Mass Challenge for a common cause: a cure for cancer.

PMC Day at Fenway started well before the first pitch at 4:05 p.m. Beginning at 11:30 a.m., air brush tattoo artists, balloon twisters, a stilt walker and a magician entertained PMC families. And great food was everywhere for families to enjoy before the game.

The excitement continued when Red Sox outfielder Darnell MacDonald signed autographs for 100 lottery-winning PMCers, in the Best Buy clubhouse. Behind the scenes, at Gate C, PMC cyclists and volunteers who were involved in the pre-game ceremony were buzzing. A group of PMC volunteers took their place in front the Green Monster to catch the falling American flag that unveiled the PMC Logo painted on the infamous wall. The 31 cancer survivors waiting anxiously for the moment they would circle Fenway Park in front of some 30,000 Red Sox fans. Once out onto the warning track, they received a standing ovation from the sold-out crowd, including Red Sox and Dodgers players.

Cambridge Police Sergeant Detective, and five-year PMC cyclist, Pauline Wells, of Cambridge sang the National Anthem, and Charles Larsen, a 30-year PMC cyclist and one of the event's top three fundraisers, threw the first ceremonial pitch. All in all, PMC Day at Fenway Park was a huge success for everyone, including the Red Sox, who defeated the LA Dodgers in the last inning, with a final score of 5-4.
