The Pan-Mass Challenge: A Family Affair

Published Date:   March 13, 2013

Topic:   PMC News

When Sarah Vicidomini was 21-years-old, she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Six weeks later, the unthinkable happened. Her father, John Coughlin, was diagnosed with stage three colorectal cancer.

Nearly ten years ago, the two simultaneously battled life threatening illnesses. Previously known as the “father-daughter duo” in the oncology ward at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Sarah and John are now cancer free.

In 2007, the father-daughter team faced another physical and emotional test, except this one was voluntary and much more fun. Together, they rode the 190-mile PMC route from Sturbridge, to Provincetown.

“When speaking with my doctors and my father’s doctors, I heard first-hand how important the seed money the PMC raises to fund cancer treatments and research really is,” said Vicidomini. “My family and I will always support the PMC...”

This August, John will ride in his eighth PMC alongside Sarah’s husband, Vincent Vicidomini, a two-time PMC cyclist. In the meantime, Sarah, a five-time PMC cyclist, is expecting her second child this June. She and her children plan to meet John and Vincent at the finish line wearing matching PMC jerseys. To date, the family has raised a combined total of $160,000 for the PMC.

Sarah and John are Living Proof that what the PMC and its thousands of cyclists, volunteers and supporters do matters.
