PMC 2014 Weekend in the News

Published Date:   August 13, 2014

Topic:   PMC News

This year, PMC weekend drew more than 5,700 cyclists from 35 states and eight countries to ride up to 190 miles during one or two days in what would be some of the most challenging weather conditions PMCers have faced in the past 35 years. Their goal by Oct. 1 is to raise $40 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund.

One way in which riders, volunteers and PMC staffers and supporters can help spread the annual bike-a-thon’s message is by sharing their stories through the media, giving a face to the PMC’s mission. When friends, family members, neighbors and co-workers see their loved ones in the news, they are much more likely to donate to the cause. Below is a sprinkling of media highlights from the weekend that the PMC Publicity Team would like to share!

The success of the Pan-Mass Challenge amongst its competitors in the a-thon industry made headlines as a feature story for the Associated Press.

The success of PMC Founder and Executive Director Billy Starr and the PMC as a leader in the a-thon industry was featured on the front page of the Business section in the Sunday edition of The Boston Globe.

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette highlighted Paralympic cyclist Todd Key as someone to watch during PMC weekend.

Local newspapers such as the Cape Cod Times and The Sun Chronicle followed PMCers along the route.

WBZ-TV, the PMC’s official 2014 media sponsor, was onsite to help share live weekend coverage.

Other TV stations met with cyclists and volunteers at official starting lines and finishes as well as water stops, including the Lakeville PMC Pedal Partner tent.

WEEI (93.7FM), official radio station of the PMC - did a live broadcast from Sturbridge with the Dale and Holley Friday afternoon leading up to PMC Opening Ceremonies.

To help the PMC reach its $40 million goal, which will bring the PMC’s 35-year gift to the Jimmy Fund to $454 million, visit www.pmc.org.

Thank you all for sharing your stories on behalf of the PMC Publicity Team. Ride on!
