The Pan-Mass Challenge, the world's single most successful athletic fundraiser, announced that M&T Bank has renewed its contract to serve as a co-presenting sponsor for the next three years. M&T Bank will continue its support of the passionate cyclists, volunteers, and generous donors who share a common goal of fundraising for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
In 2023, the PMC raised an unprecedented $72 million for Dana-Farber. Since 1980, the PMC has raised $972 million, positioning the organization to cross a monumental $1 billion in lifetime fundraising for Dana-Farber in 2024. M&T is proud to co-present the PMC with the Red Sox Foundation.
“Since 2022, we have been honored to work with the PMC and we are proud to once again take on the challenge of finding a cure for cancer,” said Grace Lee, regional president of Massachusetts for M&T Bank. “At M&T, we are passionate about making positive change happen and there’s no greater impact we can have than helping to beat this devastating disease. We look forward to another amazing PMC and to being a part of the incredible $1 billion milestone.”
In addition to ride weekend, M&T’s sponsorship supports multiple PMC events throughout the year, including the Winter Cycle at Fenway Park, PMC Unpaved in the Berkshires, and the PMC Kids Rides program, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
As part of the bank’s long-standing tradition of community commitment and employee volunteerism, M&T will also field a team of 22 employees to ride the PMC, which will take place on Saturday, August 3, and Sunday, August 4, and staff water stops along the routes.
“On behalf of the PMC community, I am grateful for the unwavering support from M&T Bank in our shared mission to fight cancer,” said Billy Starr, PMC founder and executive director. “We’re appreciative of not only M&T Bank’s support as our co-presenting sponsor, but for their dedication to getting out on the roads to ride and fundraise alongside us as we approach this milestone together.”
For the 18th consecutive year, the PMC will donate 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar as Dana-Farber’s largest single contributor. This year, the PMC’s fundraising goal is $75 million which, if met, would bring the PMC’s total contributions to $1.047 billion since 1980.
In 2023, M&T Bank and its charitable organization, The M&T Bank Charitable Foundation, together contributed more than $53.6 million to more than 4,250 non-profit organizations.
M&T Bank and PMC staff celebrated M&T's commitment to the Pan-Mass Challenge on Tuesday, June 4, in Boston.

About The Pan-Mass Challenge
The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is a bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the world. The PMC was founded in 1980 by Billy Starr, who remains the event’s executive director, an annual cyclist and a fundraiser. The PMC has since raised $972 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause, generating 62 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue as Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. The PMC has successfully melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors and individual contributors, all of which are essential to the PMC's goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. The PMC’s hope and aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber's doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures for all cancers.
