PMC Kids Rides are off to a blazing start. After a jam packed weekend of events, three more towns will host PMC Kids Rides Sunday June 7, all in effort to push the PMC Kids Rides program to its $1 million fundraising goal. Head to Chatham, Franklin or Concord, N.H., this weekend to help raise money for cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Here are this weekend's events: Chatham hosts a PMC Kids Ride at the Chatham Middle School. Chatham's ride started seven years ago by veteran PMC cyclist Glenn McVickar, a Chatham Middle School physical education teacher. McVickar started the ride as a way for his students to become more active. It wasn't until four years ago the ride was named as an official PMC Kids Ride. The event is held in honor of Rick Williams, who passed away in September 2007 from brain cancer. An energetic group of 400 kids are expected at the 3rd annual PMC Kids Ride in Franklin. Kids ages seven to 14 will ride a three-, six-, or 10-mile, loop that will start and end at Jefferson Elementary School. There will also be a separate course for riders ages three to six-years-old in the Jefferson School parking lot. After the ride there will be a party in the parking lot that will include refreshments, music, games and a raffle. For every $25 raised by a rider, he/she will get a raffle ticket. The goal of the PMC Franklin Kids Ride is to raise $30,000. Riders who raise $150 or more will be recognized as Heavy Hitters and will be acknowledged at the ride and at a special Heavy Hitters event. Registration fee is $10 and the suggested fundraising minimum is $40. Concord, N.H. is kicking off its first PMC Kids Ride with nearly 200 children, ages two to 13, to ride one of two routes at the State Agency Buildings: Depts. of Safety and Health & Human Services, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will be a Mini-Riders Loop for riders on three or more wheels. For the older riders, they will ride on a larger loop, with an optional obstacle course. During the event, there will be face painting, bike decorating, raffle, food, and more. The registration fee is $10 and the suggested fundraising minimum is $25. Kids who raise $200 or more will be entered into a raffle with great prizes.
