Big weekend of PMC Kids Rides

Sunday, May 31 is a big day for PMC Kids Rides across Massachusetts. This weekend, children from seven towns in Massachusetts are raising money for the PMC and cancer research and treatment Dana-Farber. This is just the beginning of the 2009 Kids Ride season, which features 40 events throughout New England and beyond. PMC Kids Rides are a way to introduce your little ones to philanthropy, while they enjoy a day outside on their bikes.  Here are the May 31 events: Littleton will be holding its very first PMC Kids Ride at IBM's parking lot (550 King St.) from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for children age 4 to 13. The event will feature three courses, entertainment, food raffles, and Littleton's annual Touch a Truck event. Registration fee is $10 and the suggested fundraising minimum is $25. Marblehead will be hosting its fifth PMC Kids Ride and expecting a turnout of more than 100 young cyclists, from tikes to teens. They will be ride up to 10 times around a one-mile loop starting and ending at the Eveleth School. These young riders are hoping to raise $25,000 for cancer research and treatment. Registration fee is $10 and the suggested fundraising minimum is $25. The Milton area will be partnering with Dorchester to hold its PMC Kids Ride this year. This year the Kids Ride will be at Pope John Paul II Park in Dorchester instead of Cunningham Park in Milton. The ride will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be two courses for younger children and a 1.3 mile paved track for riders up to age 15. Registration fee is $10 and the suggested fundraising minimum is $25. Natick hosts its 3rd Annual PMC Kids Ride with riders ranging from 3 to 12 years old. The event will be held at Natick High School from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with three courses to choose from and a post-ride party. Registration fee is $10 and the suggested fundraising minimum is $25. Wellesley-Weston's PMC Kids Ride for this year has been sold-out as of April 24. They will be hosting their Kids Ride at Babson College in Wellesley from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. with riders from ages 3 to 13. Riders can choose from three courses. At the finish line there will be a celebration party for the young riders with entertainment, refreshments and a raffle. Special guest PMC Founder Billy Starr and Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne will kick off the event. See the Overstock.com Kids Rides Challenge. PMC Kids Ride Westborough will be held at Westborough High School from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Kids from ages 3 to 13 from Westborough and beyond are coming together to raise money for cancer research and treatment as well as to ride in honor of Westborough's very own, Kayleigh McCabe, 5, who is being treated at the Jimmy Fund Clinic. There will also be a post party offering refreshments, face painting, music, raffles and much more. There is no minimum fundraising amount this year for Westborough's PMC Kids Ride, but riders are encouraged to raise as much money as they can for this good cause. Registration fee is $10. Westwood's 2nd Annual PMC Kids Ride will honor Westwood's Pedal Partners, Brett Hobson, 3, Ian Maher, 8, and Greg Keene, 16, who are all being treated for cancer at the Jimmy Fund Clinic. The kids will also ride in honor of Luke Senerchia, 20, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia, as well as others fighting the disease. This year's  PMC Westwood Kids Ride is expecting 500 kids to ride, ages 5 to 16, to ride on two courses at Martha Jones School from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Early check-in will be on Wednesday, May 27, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Westwood Senior Center. Registration fee is $10 and the suggested fundraising minimum is $50. Riders are also encouraged to raise $250 to qualify for Heavy Hitter status and receive a special prize.
