Why I PMC guest blog by Amy Reiss Levitt, 24-year volunteer
I started volunteering after four years of watching my husband ride, knowing I wanted to be part of something that truly matters. I volunteer because I can—and because this cause has touched my life in so many ways. I was the caregiver for my best friend of nearly 50 years, an experience I will always carry with me. My father, father-in-law, aunt, and now my brother have all faced this awful disease, along with too many friends—and friends of friends—to count.
Volunteering for the Pan-Mass Challenge is my way of turning that heartbreak into purpose. If one day I can hang up my Crew Leader role because this disease is no longer a threat, it will mean the fight was worth it. Until then, I’ll keep showing up in all sorts of weather. Here comes year 24.
