The Pan-Mass Challenge announced today that CEO Jarrett Collins will step down at the end of 2026 after a seven-year tenure on the PMC staff.
Since joining the leadership team in 2019, Jarrett has helped guide the PMC through a transformative era. During his tenure, the organization has raised $471 million for cancer research and treatment, more than any other cycling fundraiser in the world. Even when faced with a global pandemic in 2020, the PMC team pivoted to raise $50 million without an in-person event, funding critical patient care at Dana-Farber during an unprecedented health crisis.
“Serving the PMC has been a tremendous honor,” said Jarrett. “I am grateful to my dedicated co-workers, whose talent and commitment have improved the PMC every year, and to the remarkable cadre of riders, volunteers, and sponsors who are the heart of our success. I intend to ride and fundraise for the PMC’s mission for many years to come.”
Jarrett’s impact, first as COO, then president, and finally as CEO, is visible on many levels. Over the last seven years, the annual gift to Dana-Farber grew by 38%, reaching a record $78 million in 2025. Jarrett developed and oversaw the successful launch of PMC Unpaved, now the biggest gravel cycling fundraiser in the country. Operationally, Jarrett spearheaded key initiatives focused on rider safety and the PMC weekend experience, which have led to record rider satisfaction levels.
“Jarrett has been a vital part of our success,” said Billy Starr, PMC Founder and Chairman. “His work has empowered our staff, fortified our infrastructure, and enabled our riders and volunteers to achieve our collective goal: bringing cures for cancer Closer by the Mile.”
As part of the transition plan, the PMC is preparing to launch a search for an Executive Director. Details of the search will be shared with the PMC community shortly.
The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is a bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the world. Founded in 1980 by Billy Starr – who remains the event's founder & chairman, an annual cyclist, and a fundraiser – the PMC has raised $1.125 billion for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. As Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor, the organization generates 67 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue. 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar goes directly to fueling cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber. In addition to its two-day bike-a-thon across Massachusetts, the PMC is powered by further “spokes in the wheel,” with initiatives including the PMC Winter Cycle, an indoor spin event, PMC Unpaved, a gravel bike ride, and PMC Kids Rides, mini bike-a-thons for children ages 2 to 15. The PMC attracts riders and volunteers from 47 states and 12 countries and over 300,000 individual donors. Across events, the PMC has successfully melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors, and individual donors, all of whom are essential to the PMC's goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. The PMC's aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber's doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures for all cancers. For more information, visit www.pmc.org.
