Getting Closer By The Mile - #PMC2013 Day 1

Written by Pan-Mass Challenge | Aug 3, 2013 4:00:00 AM

Day one of the 34th annual Pan-Mass Challenge is coming to an end. This morning thousands of cyclists began their miles-long journey in either Wellesley or Sturbridge to continue in the fight against cancer. As red, yellow and orange PMC jersey’s lined the streets, neon colored posters and the sounds of cowbells and cheer filled the fair. Hugs and laughs were exchanged at the Pedal Partner tent at the Lakeville water stop and hundreds of volunteers were along the route to provide cyclists with food and beverages as well as heartfelt physical and emotional support to continue on their way. This year, the PMC’s goal is to raise $38 million to support lifesaving adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The money raised by the PMC is considered seed money that enables doctors and researchers at Dana-Farber to fund groundbreaking cancer research and treatments that make a difference in the cancer community worldwide. Although there is still a lot to be done to put an end to this disease, together the PMC family is helping with the spin of two wheels to get closer by the mile.
