Published Date:   June 01, 2020

Topic:   Sponsor News

The Pan-Mass Challenge is excited to announce that Charles River Apparel is an official sponsor of this year’s PMC, which has been reimagined due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The PMC raises more money for charity than any other athletic fundraising event in the country, donating 100% of every rider-raised dollar directly to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to support life-saving cancer research and treatment. In 2019, the PMC donated $63 million to Dana-Farber, bringing its 40-year contribution to $717 million.

“Each year, we look to increase our involvement with the Pan-Mass Challenge, and we are thrilled to partner with them in a new way this year while continuing to raise money and awareness for cancer research and treatment”, said Barry Lipsett, CEO/Owner of Charles River Apparel. “This new sponsorship provides Charles River with an opportunity to expand our reach and continue giving back to an organization we are passionate about.”

A long-time supporter of the PMC, Barry is entering his 15th year as a rider. In 2019, five Charles River employees – Barry, Tracy Lehnen (VP of Marketing), Ross Dohrmann (VP of Sales), Mark Watts (Inside Sales Manager) and Kaitlyn Montagna (Decorations Operations Supervisor) – completed their first Charles River team PMC ride.

"As we prepare for PMC 2020 Reimagined, we are grateful for Charles River Apparel's continued support,” said Sarah Mercurio Hall, PMC Director of Creative, Events and Merchandise. "They are a passionate partner, committed to supporting our organization not only as a sponsor but as riders and fundraisers as well."

While this year’s PMC will be different in its execution, the organization and its community remains fully committed to its fundraising efforts in support of lifesaving cancer research, treatment and care at Dana-Farber.

About the Pan-Mass Challenge

The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is a bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the world. The 41st PMC will take place on August 1, 2020. The PMC was founded in 1980 by Billy Starr, who remains the event’s executive director, an annual cyclist and a fundraiser. The PMC has since raised $717 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The event donates 100% of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause, generating 57% of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue as Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor.

The PMC has successfully melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors and individual contributors, all of which are essential to the PMC's goal and model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its annual gift. The PMC’s hope and aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber's doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures for all cancers.
