James Creighton's Ride

Why I Ride ...

Cancer affects us all. Some of my friends are surviving cancer while others have lost their lives to it. My father had cancer. And the young niece of some close friends of mine is fighting a battle with cancer no child should ever have to fight .

Brielle LaPlante is an energetic, positive, beautiful 10 year old with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. A first round of chemotherapy and radiation in 2005 did not place the cancer into remission. On March 3, 2006, Brielle underwent a bone marrow transplant with marrow taken from her 4 year old sister Jaclyn as a second attempt to stop the cancer. The road to recovery is tough but Brielle's grit, determination, and fortitude will allow her to prevail.

Justin is the eight-year old son of a friend of a Brielle's Brigade rider and our team's newest pedal partner. Justin is responding well to chemotherapy after a tumor was discovered in his brain in October, 2008.

Unfortunately, I have new reasons to ride every year and 2010 is no different.  We lost beautiful 28-year old Elizabeth from our community in June, 2010 when her melanoma, which we all thought had been controlled by chemotherapy, raged back and pervaded Elizabeth's body. My daughter, Olivia, and son, Liam, had been blessed to have spent many hours with Elizabeth as Elizabeth had babysat for many children in town.

Another story is that of Ginny, a mother of  seven and nine-year olds and a member of our church who is currently battling lung cancer. Unfortunately, we all have stories like this of friends and family members who are courageously battling cancer.

Please help Brielle, Justin, Ginnny and others in their situation by pledging what you can toward our ride.  As an incentive, I will match  any donation up to $100 each and up to a total of $1000.  Keep in mind that all donations are fully tax deductible.
