Team Eradicate's Ride

Why I Ride ...

The name speaks directly to the mission. Team Eradicate is determined to be a driving force in defeating cancer in our lifetimes. Like many PMC'ers, the team combines vision, determination, athleticism, fundraising, and compassion, focused on this, one of the noblest causes. If you share this ideal, we'd like you to join with us " as a rider, as a volunteer, or as a contributor.

The Team was founded in 2001 by Matthew Sheehan. That first year, there were a mere eight riders, raising an admirable freshmen showing - $29,000. The start was modest, but the goals were grand " early on, one of several goals was to raise more than $1,000,000 in eight years time! The team and its efforts have grown steadily, to a record 2006 event with 37 riders, raising more than $233,000 raised, bringing the team total through year six to $701,958! We have a very significant goal for 2007 - to surpass the million mark this year " a full year ahead of schedule!

The Team has a shared, core set of beliefs:

- Cancer is a serious and powerful disease that must be met by serious and powerful counter-measures
- Cancer can and will be eliminated
- By aggressively fundraising, we can accelerate the fight against a disease that has taken so many loved ones from each and every one of us
- We can be more powerful and effective " whether in fundraising or in offering assistance to those combating the disease " as a team than we can be as individuals

The team's engagement has been most direct and visible in working with our Pedal Partners. In 2003 and 2004, the team supported and encouraged Joey Franke, and in 2005 and 2006, Sarah Levin. These young battlers have had tremendous determination and sparkle, giving us much inspiration, as we have helped them and their families through these trying times. It is enormously gratifying that both of these young people have come through their primary treatments at Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and moved on with their lives, so that they no longer need to be Pedal Partners. The impact of Dana Farber is obvious!

Team Eradicate wants to acknowledge and applaud the support of its corporate sponsors, who have made cash and/or in-kind donations to further the Team's efforts. These corporations are very diverse in their business focus, but united in a common willingness to join with team members in the fight against cancer.
