Tony Arnold's Ride
Why I Ride ...
Hi, I have elected to involve myself in raising funds for Cancer research. As some of you may know, cancer is what took my mother sooner than she deserved. Even until a few months before her passing, she continued to be a swimmer at Rossmoor retirement community in Walnut Creek, California. She is the reason I was so successful as a swimmer.
My father-in-law, Lou Hutzler, is now battling the disease. Fortunately, he seems to be winning. I learned a lot about him over the past few months; that he is one tough SOB.
The fundraiser is the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge. The PMC was founded by Billy Starr whose mother died prematurely of cancer and led him to create the most prolific fundraising event of its kind. The PMC benefits the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, which is part of the Harvard Medical Center. Each year the PMC is able to deliver an incredible 97 cents of every dollar raised directly to the Institute! Since its inception in 1980, the PMC has donated over $122 Million to Dana Farber Cancer Institute with over $20 Million coming from last year's event.
On August 5th and 6th, 2006, I will be riding across Massachusetts for this cause. I hope that you will join me in supporting an event that can literally change the lives of people you know.
The link at the end of this email will take you to my Pan-Mass Challenge Profile. This is my personal fundraising website. Join me in reaching this year's $24 million goal. Last year's $23 million gift to the Jimmy Fund of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute represented 99% of all donations. "
