Stephen Siegel's Ride
Why I Ride ...
I am writing to once again raise funds that will go directly to the fight against children's cancer. For the third year, I, along with 45 other people, will be proudly wearing my TeamBrent jersey and cycling in the Pan Mass Challenge. This is a two day, 200 mile bike ride across
Dear friends of ours, Dana and Mike McCreesh had the horrible experience of their son, Brent, being diagnosed with cancer. Brent was 2 1/2 at the time and was found to have neuroblastoma. Brent has been fighting this disease with more strength and courage then most of us could ever muster. He has had six rounds of chemotherapy, a dozen surgeries, weeks of radiation, uncountable blood transfusions, two stem cell transplants and 15 months of isolation. I am so happy to report that Brent is 4 1/2 years cancer free! The picture on this page was from the first year that I rode in the Pan Mass. It still shows me what the event is about. The 200 miles is nothing compared to what Brent has been through. Theopportunity to see him alive and well and knowing that we are riding so there will be more stories of cure.
Being on TeamBrent doesn't just involve the Pan Mass. It has led to the development of Brentapalooza, a music festival whose funds also go to this fight against children's cancer. We are currently planning this amazing event. You can get more information at www.Brentapalooza.net. I have signed up for St Baldricks where I will be shaving my head bald again this year as part of the same fight. I also get the honor of taking Peyton, my 8 year old, to the Princess Ball- a daddy-daughter formal where a portion of the money we raise goes towards TeamBrent. At last year's event, my daughter turned to me as Mike McCreesh was speaking and said- "Dad, I don't get it, how does money stop cancer?" An insightful question. Mike then told the story of what has gone on with the money that TeamBrent has raised. A new, very expensive, specialized treatment room was built at Boston Children's Hospital. That room is in use, providing hope to families that once didn't have any. Because that room is necessary, meaning children are still being diagnosed with cancer, I keep riding.
So I ask your help in continuing this amazing effort. The link at the end of this email will take you to my Pan-Mass Challenge Profile. This is my personal fundraising website. Last year $30 million was raised and 100% of that money went to the Jimmy Fund of the Dana-Farber Cancer Instiitute.
