Sean Saganey's Ride
Why I Ride ...
Patti: breast cancer, Dad: multiple myeloma, Cindy: cervical cancer, Jimmy L: esophagus cancer, Pat S: pancreatic cancer, Jeff:" skin cancer, Mary C: breast cancer, Mark: prostate cancer…
These are just a few people I know that recently had or have cancer. The list seems to get longer so my efforts to raise money for the Dana Farber Jimmy Fund becomes more important. This will be my 9th year participating in the Pan Mass Challenge and I’ve really come to love the ride. It gives me two days to reflect on how lucky I’ve been and how fortunate my family is to live near one of the world’s best cancer hospitals. My families past 8 years have been filled with cancer and because of the efforts of Dana Farber, Brigham and Women’s and Mass General we’ve seen the PMC contributions at work…for everyone! The beauty is the information from Dana Farber is spread to the area hospitals so everyone benefits. About 2.4 million American's are diagnosed with some form of cancer each year (including skin). So riding and supporting the PMC allows us to help in the fight. The PMC allows me to participate in trying to find a cure for a disease that affects everyone one way or another. And it is still my belief that all funds from these events will one day find a cure.
I'm riding with Team Xaverian for the third year; there are 16 of us on the team. I will also be riding with my fellow Xaverian Hawk, UMass Minuteman and Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity brother, Greg Buchanan. Unfortunately the third amigo, Paul Bertram can’t ride this year but he’ll be back there again! We will be riding from Sturbridge to Provincetown, about 194 miles. This year each rider must raise $4,200 or the rider pays the shortfall. That said, after this year I will have raised over $22,000 for the Jimmy Fund and that’s only because of your help! So again thank you for your support year after year.
