Why I Ride ...

August 6th, 2011 will mark as the start of my fifth Pan Massachusetts Challenge ride and I have to say, I am more excited than ever to have the opportunity to ride again this year.   Since my first ride in 2006, my team (Forza G) has grown from 6 riders to 45 today.   Our 2011 team fundraising goal this year is a staggering $200,000.  We are already 1/3 of the way towards reaching that number and I know that with your help, we will hit our final goal.

As many of you know, my first PMC dates back to 2006 following the loss of two people who were very close to me; my mother in law, Annette Kenney, in November 2005, and my grandfather, David Jenkins in March , 2006. They were both wonderful people whose lives were centered around and devoted to their families and friends. I think about them every day.   And once again, I ride in their memory.

For those unfamiliar with the PMC, it is now in its 32nd year and is the nation's first fundraising bike-a-thon. Today, the event raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country and is looking this year to reach a fundraising goal of $34 million.  Proceeds raised support much needed cancer research at the Dana Farber Cancer institute in Boston.   I'd really like to help the PMC try and match or exceed the 2010 fundraising amount this year so I call upon you for your support.  Here is how you can help:

Move your mouse to the left where it says make an online donation (e-gift) and do it. Online giving is fast, simple and secure. If your company offers to match your gift, take full advantage of it. If you'd prefer to send a check, that's fine too, you can make it out to The Jimmy Fund and mail it to me at 356 Central Avenue, Milton, MA 02186.

Finally, it's a PMC tradition to pin a list on your cycling jersey of those who have lost their lives to or are fighting cancer today. I personally know who some of you are already but if there's a cancer victim or survivor you'd like me to include, please let me know.  I'll be happy to carry them with me as I ride.  Once again, thank you for your continued generosity, support and friendship.

Sincerely,

Simon
