Why I Ride ...

Getting people to support the Jimmy Fund through the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC), whether as riders, donors or volunteers, has sadly not been difficult because so many among us have family members, friends or colleagues who have suffered the terrible harms of cancer.  This year, the spectre of cancer feels particularly close in my life as a result of the tragic loss of my longtime friend, law partner and fellow cyclist Tom Federico and the ongoing battle with cancer being fought by my dear sister-in-law, Emily Woodward Macy.  Tom passed away in June of 2010, at the age of 52, after a hard and brave fight with cancer, leaving behind a loving wife, three devoted children and scores of friends in the legal community who admired and respected him.  Emily’s courageous battle with cancer continues through her irrepressible spirit, strong faith and the tireless support of her husband, three boys, extended family and her many friends.

I ask that you please join me in the fight against cancer, in memory of Tom and so many other who have been taken by cancer, and in support of Emily and those who continue to battle cancer with her, by making a donation to the PMC for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute's Jimmy Fund.  My goal this year is to raise at least $10,000 for the Jimmy Fund.  Through a dedicated effort to raise the necessary funding for cancer research, of which the PMC is such an important part, hopefully a cure for cancer will be found in our lifetimes.

Thank you.

Sean
