Why I Ride ...

Luca De Lisi was a little boy that I had the pleasure of meeting just a few weeks before he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Luca's story is very compelling, and the tradegy that struck him and his family is something that no one should ever have to go through.
When Luca's dad told me that he was putting together a team of riders to bike 192 miles to raise money for pediatric brain cancer research, and asked if I wanted to join them, I was truly honored. I didn't ride a bike nor own one, but I jumped at the opportunity to join him in this challenge to fight this deadly disease.
Cancer has touched all of our lives. I lost both my mother and father to cancer. Many other close family members and freinds have been stricken by this disease, and I have watched as they endured endless treatment and debilitating side affects. Many have fought the battle hard, only to succumb in the end. Many others face the battle every day, and I hope and pray that they will win their battle. And though my life has been deeply affected by watching those I love suffer, nothing can compare to the tradegy that befell little Luca De Lisi and his family. I can't imagine what Luca went through, nor the pain and sadness his family had to endure.
I have been blessed with three healthy children. They are my life and the thought of losing one of them is unbearable. Jeff and Megan De Lisi had one child, and now he is gone.
So I will ride in memory of Luca will all my energy and all my heart. And as I ride, I will be thinking of parents that have lost a young child, and I will be thinking of young children that have lost a parent. I will think of those that I have loved, and lost and I will be thinking of those who continue to fight this terrible disease.
I know I can make a difference......I hope you will too.
