Robert Donahue's Ride
Thank you for stopping by my page...
Who do I ride for?
I am surrounded by Cancer. Not only does my beautiful wife Jen sell a Chemotherapy drug, but I have seen firsthand the effects of cancer. My father and father in-law are survivors. The list of survivors I know includes uncles, aunts, cousins, neighbors, co-workers and friends. The list of those that have lost the battle includes an aunt, cousin, and co-worker. Sadly their is a list of those that are currently undergoing treatment which inlcudes and Aunt and an Uncle.
We all have similar stories of knowing someone or maybe it is you, who has fought and won, fought and lost, or is doing battle. This is who I ride for.
Why do I ride...
The event is first class. The volunteers, the riders, the people that come out to cheer and certainly the child survivors that hold signs that read , "I am 6 years old because of you!"
The twin sisters that post signs reading, "Look out for the pair of Hooters!", as you make the turn, there they are, head to toe in Owl outfits. On day two of the ride they are is the same spot they have been each year, dressed as the "Over The Hill Cheerleaders" just as we enter the steep dunes of Wellfleet.
The bag piper after the first big hill in Sturbridge, the sunrise over the canal as you ride your bike over the Bourne bridge (the only time this is allowed), the Finish line and the hot shower and cold beer that awaits. This is why I ride.
