Rik Clark's Ride
Why I Ride ...
My first ride was in the 1993 PMC, riding with older brother Allen. We were 69 and 63 when we rode the195 miles in two days from Sturbridge to Provincetown with the overnight stop at the Mass Maritime Academy in Bourne. My wife, Sandy, and I volunteered in 1992 when Allen first rode. I had three great PMCs with Allen before we lost him to lung cancer in 1997. Son, Ted, rode Allen's truck of a bike in 1997 and has ridden with me every year since. Grandson Conner Clark joined his Dad and me for a very special three-generational ride from Wellesley to Bourne on August 6, 2011. The paceline photo was taken of Conner, Sandy,Ted and me at the Wellesley start on August 5, 2012. Many family members volunteered at the Barnstable water stop on 2011 PMC day #2, Sunday, the 7th of August. My wife, Sandy, is my crew chief, without her help and support, I could not do this!
The PMC Pedal Partner Program began in 2001 and our team has participated in the Program each year since. Several of our young Pedal Partner Jimmy Fund Clinic patients have lost their battles with cancer but several are doing well. Cycling from either Sturbridge or Wellesley for two days or one is a piece of cake compared to what young cancer patients and their families endure. Our 2009 PMC Pedal Partner was Mykaela Fuller from Hudson, NY, for the third year in a row. Kylie Farhadi from Mashpee has been our PMC Pedal Partner in 2010 and 2011 and we are pleased that she continues to do well and will be our 2012 PMC Pedal Partner. .
$32,146, or 92%, of the 2011 $35,000 fundraising goal was reached. The goal for 2012 is to reach 100%. My cumulative fundraising goal from 1993 through year-end 2011 will continue to grow past the current $550,000 mark.
The PMC is NOT about the bike nor the RIDE, it is about Dana-Farber and helping to win the war against cancer.
Support, emotionally and financiall truly helps.
