Why I ride the PMC
Thank you for visiting my Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) fundraising site.
For the fourth year in a row I will be riding the PMC during the first full weekend in August, and, for the third year in a row, will be riding a two-day, 163 mile route from Wellesley to Provincetown. I am committed to raising $6,800 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and I appreciate any help you can provide. I found this to be an exhausting ride last year and I am counting on you to support me in whatever way you can.
For 2010 I will be participating as part of the Red Bridge Strategy, Inc. PMC team. As part of its team sponsorship, Red Bridge Strategy has contributed two tickets to the Boston Red Sox game against the Texas Rangers on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 7:10 pm in Fenway Park, Boston. Congratulations to Fazeela Morshed, who won the tickets.
The PMC raises money for cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The centerpiece of its fundraising effort is an annual bike-a-thon in which cyclists ride across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Because the PMC charges riders to participate, and uses sponsors to underwrite most of the cost of the ride, it is very efficient with your donations. Last year's $35 million gift to the Jimmy Fund of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute included 100% of every check and credit card donation.
The PMC is a special event for me.
First and foremost, my father died after a battle with cancer in 2002, and this event will help prevent that from happening to others. In addition, other family members and friends have fought battles with cancer, so I'm eager to contribute to an organization like Dana-Farber that provides expert care to people with cancer while advancing diagnosis, treatment and prevention. As I have in past years, I'm dedicating my ride to the memory of my Father.
Secondarily, cycling is the activity that contributed most to my physical recuperation following a debilitating car accident in 1996. The accident left me with a leg broken in three places, and riding my bicycle was one of the few ways I could improve my leg strength. Cycling was a significant contributor to the conditioning that ultimately allowed me to walk without crutches or a cane after 18 months.
Overall, I'm pleased to be able to raise money for a worthy cause through an activity that has been therapeutic to me in the past. Please join me in helping the PMC fund meaningful cancer research and treatment.
To contribute, enter the amount of your contribution in the "gift amount" box to the right of this text, select the "make another e gift" link below the box, and follow the resulting directions.
Thank you. I really appreciate your support!
