The PMC for me ...

On August 4th and 5th I will once again be participating in the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) by riding a two-day, 163 mile route from Wellesley to Provincetown. The PMC benefits the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and this year I hope to raise more than $7,000. To provide an incentive for you to help me get there, you could win tickets to the Boston Red Sox - Texas Rangers game the day after the ride!

The PMC raises money for cancer research and treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The centerpiece of its fundraising effort is an annual bike-a-thon in which cyclists ride across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Because the PMC charges riders to participate and uses sponsors to underwrite the cost of the ride, Dana-Farber’s Jimmy Fund receives 100% of your donation.

I will again be riding as part of the Red Bridge Strategy PMC team, and Red Bridge Strategy has donated two tickets to the Boston Red Sox game against the Texas Rangers the first day after the ride - Monday, August 6, 2011 at 7:00 pm in Fenway Park, Boston. Every donation of $100 or more to any combination of Red Bridge Strategy team members will result in an entry to win the tickets! Donations must be completed by midnight Sunday, May 20, 2012.

The PMC is a special event for me.

First and foremost, my father died after a battle with cancer in 2002, and this event will reduce the likelihood that cancer will continue to claim our loved ones. In addition to my dad, many other family members, friends and colleagues have fought battles with cancer, so I'm eager to contribute to an organization like Dana-Farber that provides expert care to people with cancer while advancing diagnosis, treatment and prevention. My teammate and I are also honoring our partner Jalal Alamgir as part of our 2012 ride. Jalal, who died unexpectedly last December, rode in honor of his mother who was treated at Dana-Farber a few years ago. As I have in years past, I'm dedicating my ride to the memory of my Father.

Secondarily, cycling is the activity that contributed most to my physical recuperation following a debilitating car accident in 1996. The accident left me with a leg broken in three places, and riding my bicycle was one of the few ways I could improve my leg strength. Cycling was a significant contributor to the conditioning that ultimately allowed me to walk without crutches or a cane after 18 months.

Overall, I'm pleased to be able to raise money for a worthy cause through an activity that has been therapeutic to me in the past. Please join me in helping the PMC fund meaningful cancer research and treatment.

Thank you. I really appreciate your support!
