Michael Romano's Ride
Why I Ride ...
Hello Everyone,
For those family and friends who don't already know, I will be bicycling in the 2009 PAN MASS CHALLENGE, the weekend of August 1-2, for the first time! The route I will be riding is the 47 mile-, one day ride, not nearly the amount of miles we need to go to cure this disease.
The PMC raises money for life-saving cancer research and treatment at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Through the Jimmy Fund, these efforts provide hope to the many families that are touched by this disease. This annual bike-a-thon ; has generated over $200 million since its founding in 1980 and 99 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to cancer research.
I recognize that during these tough economic times it may not be easy for many of you to find room in your budget for a charitable donation. However, as hard as it is for me to ask, I am asking for your help.
I am hoping that you will make a donation towards my fundraising goal of $1200. All gifts are tax deductible.
It's pretty easy, and it only takes a couple of minutes. Here's how:
On the web: https://www.pmc.org/egifts/giftinfo.asp?eGiftID=MR0228 or you may choose to mail a check, made payable to "PMC" or "JIMMY FUND". Please mail it to:
Michael Romano 253 Belmont Street Fitchburg, MA 01420.
If you have any questions, please call me at (978) 343-7225.
I am riding in honor of those listed below:
My Mother Simone Romano - I will be riding in your memory. Your memory is very much alive today and you will always be remembered as the "Gentle Woman". With the "porcupine" son.
Michael Shaughnessy - my Brother-in-Law. Even though cancer took you from us too early, you will never be forgotten by your family. You taught us perseverance and family love.
Larry Veins -it's my honor to ride for you. The past year has been tough on you, but you are a dear, long-time family friend, who has taught us all to live life to its fullest.
Bill Loncar (Paula Shaughnessy's husband) - keep up the fight! It is an honor to ride for you. Your positive attitude with this ordeal along with your family and friend's support will see you through your continued recovery.
Jim Stacy (my boss' brother)- was first diagnosed with thyroid cancer 12 years ago, and won that battle! He then was diagnosed with leukemia and had a stem cell transplant a year ago, and all is looking good! Stay strong Jim!
Barbara Tumber (family friend) - recently battled breast cancer and has received a "clean bill of health! Stay strong "Mrs T".
Wish me a safe journey and God bless!
Michael A. Romano
