Why I Ride ...
Another year of training, and being surrounded by amazing people. And, witnessing more havoc wreaked by this horrible disease. You would think that there would be a point at which the number of cancer diagnoses would decrease, instead of this constant rise. We ride to turn those numbers around and save lives!!!
I am riding in honor of my mom who is a breast cancer survivor, and my stepfather who still lives with the devastating effects of colon cancer. I am honored to ride on behalf of our Pedal Partners, Sarah Taylor and Phoebe Davis, who are pediatric cancer survivors and great little girls!
Emily and her family are an inspiration--they have taken on this disease with strength and perseverance. No matter what curve-balls come their way, no matter how many trips they make to the emergency room, they keep their amazing positive attitude. I have learned so much from them, and admire them more than I can say.
The Davis' came into our lives this year, and we adore the spunky little 3-year old who is in the second year of her battle against leukemia. She's one of five children in an incredibly tight-knit, homeschooled family. We're so fortunate to have gotten to know this family and this wonderful little girl.
I am THRILLED to be riding and training again with my 15 year old son Ethan, who has embraced this challenge and will be riding with the team for the entire 192 miles. He amazed me last year by charging out of the gates as an extremely strong rider, especially climbing the hills. I grew to expect to see him passing me on every single hill, barely breathing hard. So incredibly cool!
