PMC Weekend

Monday, August 8, 2011
Wow! What a great experience! Paul, Noah and I found a great vantage point on Saturday to watch the riders zoom by mile 13 of their 83 mile trek from Wellesley to Bourne. It was absolutely fabulous. Sunday, Paul and I participated in the 50 mile route from Wellesley to Sharon and back. It was a beautifully scenic ride past farms and along rolling hills. It was great to see so many teens taking part in the event and Paul and I enjoyed being able to ride together. It felt good to be back out riding and my wrist held up beautifully (thanks to my surgeon, Dr. Day). The rain was welcomed since it sure beats 100 degree heat. Thank you all for your continued support. It was truly a milestone for many reasons.

Friday, August 5, 2011 PMC Weekend
PMC weekend is HERE! I am so excited to be a part of this event this year after having to miss last year. I will now be riding 50 miles on SUNDAY the 7th from Wellesley to Sharon and back again alongside Paul and other TEAM LEGS members. The most notable fellow rider is 13 year old SAM, who is the son of my team captain, Mike and the youngest Living Proof rider to ever ride the PMC. Sam's diagnosis with a rare form of cancer 10 years ago is the reason Mike started this team. I am so honored to be riding behind Sam on his first PMC!

Thank YOU ALL so much for your continued support. Together we have raised over $18,606 for cancer research and treatments at the  Dana Farber Cancer Clinic. I ride because it is the one thing I CAN do.

I'm back in the saddle again! Well, figuratively, due to all the ice and snow, but I WILL be riding in this year's PMC. It is with great passion that I ride the PMC this year in memory of Pete O'Sullivan, known to us as "Uncle Pete", who fought his battle with cancer with such strength and determination as well as humor throughout 2009-2010. His death is a great loss to many. His visit while I was hospitalized last summer after my crash was after HIS visit to Dana Farber, and moved me so. I knew that I would recover and ride again and I simply told him that the injuries which I sustained, "still beat cancer". I truly support the research and care at Dana Farber and hope that you will once again support me in this ride that is simply all I can do when cancr strikes those we love. Please consider donating what you can because every little bit helps!

Tomorrow would have been my 3rd riding of the PMC with the challenge of starting in Sturbridge. While on a training ride on July 13th this year, I was cut off by two vehicles, one directly involved in my crash leaving me unable to ride this year with face and jaw fractures, a broken right wrist and a broken left thumb, but not a broken spirit.  I may not be in the saddle like my fellow PMCers this year, but I have the same goal: to eradicate cancer. I hate this disease and am so motivated to keep fundraising and to keep riding. I am absolutely blown away by how much support you, our friends, family, and community members have given my family as well as the Jimmy Fund. Be assured, my injuries are nothing compared to cancer. Please donate what you can and I'll see you on the road next year! Love, peace, and cycling, Lena

I ride because it is the one thing I CAN do when cancer leaves us feeling helpless.

Welcome to my profile page! I am so excited to be riding in my 3rd consecutive Pan-Mass Challenge. This year, along with TEAM LEGS,  I will ride from Sturbridge to P-Town during the first weekend in August. The ride totals 192 miles; the most for me, yet, and the most challenging. I hope you will support me or another rider this year. It's an amazing event which raises money for the Dana Farber Cancer Clinic!

While I ride, I include the names of those whom I ride for on a laminated card on my back. If you would like me to include the name of someone special, please let me know by August 1st and I will ride in that person's honor or memory.

Thank You! -Lena
