Max Deutsch's Ride
Why I Ride...
On August 7th, I will be participating in a portion of the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) - a 192 mile bike ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown, MA. I am riding one day for a total of 90 miles from Wellesley to Bourne, MA. The PMC is the largest fund-raising event for the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston Massachusetts.
I will be riding with Team Perry along with my Aunt Jocelyn, who was Perry's sister-in-law. The team was created to honor the life of Perry S. Levy, as well as to support the fight against cancer. Team Perry consists of 70 devoted riders, however I am one of the few that knew Perry personally. Perry passed away, at age 32, from a rare form of gastrointestinal cancer, and although I was very young while he was alive, from my memories, from the way his family talks about him, and from the passion that his family and friends put into riding the PMC year after year, I know that Perry was an amazing person.
At 17, I sometimes take my health for granted. But training to ride in the PMC is a reminder that every day I need to be thankful for the good health of my family and friends. On the day of the ride, I will not only be thinking of Perry, but so many others that have been affected by this disease. I am so excited that I am finally able to participate in this event and raise money for such an important cause.
Thanks you in advance for your support!
