Michael Donahue's Ride

Why I Ride ...

Little over three years Mike and Dana Mccreesh's son, Brent (then age 2 1/2) was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma.   As colleague and family friend this really hit home with us, especially as our son Timmy is the same age.

Over the next 18 months, Brent had 6 rounds of chemotherapy, 12 surgeries, 3 weeks of radiation, and 2 stem cell transplants.   Brent was declared cancer-free in September 2005. Ten years ago those odds would have been ZERO. Thanks to research, things are changing and Brent has a chance to beat this.

Once a month, Dana and Brent drive 45 minutes to see their oncologist, Dr. McNamara (affectionately known as "Dr. Joe" to all his patients) for a check-up and blood and urine work. Every six months, they travel three hours to Boston Children's Hospital for three days of advanced testing. Brent's last scans in June were clear. Until Brent passes a three-year, post-treatment mark, there is a 50% chance of an incurable relapse. On June 3rd, 2007, he reached 2 years post transplant.

What can we all do to make sure this doesn't happen any more!  Thanks for the support.
