Mitchel Appelbaum's Ride

Why I Ride ...

As many of you know, I will be riding in this year’s Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) on August 1-2, 2009 to raise money to support the Jimmy Fund at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.  This will be my fourth PMC and will be the 30th anniversary of the Ride.  I will join 5,000 other riders, and will ride approximately 170 miles over two days -- from Wellesley to Provincetown, Massachusetts.

The ride will be challenging, but it is nothing compared to the difficulties and challenges faced daily by those that have been affected by cancer â€" patients and their families alike.  I lost my mother to cancer about 15 years ago, and I have seen the disease affect family, friends and neighbors (cancer strikes one of every two American men, and one of every three American women).  My hope is that together we can help meet the PMC’s 2009 goal of raising $30 million to support the Jimmy Fund (last year, the PMC raised $35 million) and the life-saving research and treatment efforts of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.  The PMC is the single-largest contributor to the Jimmy Fund, having raised over $239 million since the Ride began.

I have made my pledge - both monetary and to complete the ride.  Please join me and make a tax-deductible contribution of whatever amount you can -- $25, $50, $100 or more â€" to support this great cause and to help move steps closer to winning the battle against cancer.
