Laurie Thomsen's Ride

Why I Ride ...

FUND the FIGHT AGAINST CANCER!  I hope you will join me on my PMC ride this year.  This will be my seventh year riding the Pan Mass Challenge.  I first rode it 14 years ago after my mother died of cancer.  While I ride in memory of her and other loved ones who have died of cancer, I also ride in honor of my father and my step-mother who are both cancer survivors.  This year I will again ride as part of the Pedals for Pediatrics team.  All the PMC money raised by the team will go to benefit pediatric oncology & neuro-oncology research programs and assistance for families.  I am honored to be riding on this team which is comprised of a number of Dana Farber and Children's Hospital doctors and nurses as well as family members of children treated at the Dana Farber.  My good friend, Lindsay Frazier is a pediatric oncologist at the Dana Farber and I will be riding with her and her husband for the fourth year in a row.  The PMC raises a lot of money for cancer research and treatment, but a surprisingly small amount of that money goes to pediatric cancer research.  All the money raised by Pedals for Pediatrics will go towards pediatric oncology & neuro-oncology.  So thanks for helping to provide additional support to this important area.

The PMC is an incredibly well run event and the riders raise large amounts of money for The Dana Farber for cancer research and care.  !00% of every rider dollar raised goes directly to the cause.  Since 1980, the PMC has raised over $303 million for the Dana Farber through the Jimmy Fund.  This year the PMC's goal is to raise $34 million, and I hope to raise at least $10,000 for the event.  Last year through the generous support of my friends I  raised over $11,000.    Thank you to my supporters last year and I hope you will join me on the ride again this year!

The Pan Mass Challenge ride days are two of my most inspiring days of the year-- the amount of effort put in by the volunteers, the riders  and the supporters-- (all of you) is immense.    There are many many cancer survivor signs along the route and so many people with names on their shirts of those they are riding in memory of or in honor of.  The whole way along the route people are saying to the riders "Thank-you for riding" because of the money we are raising for cancer research. The PMC is an amazingly moving and worthwhile event.  I hope you will join me in funding important cancer research. FUND the FIGHT AGAINST CANCER.

I would be honored to ride in memory or in honor of your loved ones.  Please let me know their names and I will wear them on my shirt.

Cheers,

Laurie
