Linda Smith's Ride
Why I Ride ...
I am excited and proud to be riding this year for Team Dassault. Team Photon, made up of photon and cycling enthusiasts, merged - creating a team that is 40 riders strong and committed to raising $400,000 for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute this year.
The last few years were special because I rode for my great friend and generous PMC supporter, Harrison Roberts. You may know Harry (Optics Univ Rochester '89, MIT'98). In 2004, Harry was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic cancer and was told he had 6 months to live. Giving up was not an option with his two little girls, Gabrielle and Arianna, to care for. PMC 2008 was truly special, because Harry beat the odds, bought a bike, and we crossed the finish line together!!!
We all know people near and dear to us who have battled cancer. Because of the love and superhero efforts of researchers, doctors, fund raisers, patients and their supporters, cancer can be prevented, diagnosed early and curable in our lifetime.
The PMC is the single largest contributor to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country. PMC donates 100% of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. These are crucial funds that make a difference in the lives of cancer patients around the world.
We will ride 192 miles from Sturbridge to Provincetown to raise $250,000 this year. We still have a long ways to our goal and appreciate your support.
If you are interested in joining the team as a rider or volunteer, please do not hesitate to give me a call. It is an opportunity to channel energy into something much greater than the athletic accomplishment - it is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of millions whose lives are touched by cancer.
Thank you for your continued support.
