Lisa Floryshak-Windman's Ride

Why I Ride ...

I sit here trying to figure out what to write about why I have chose this cause. I have too many reasons, some success stories and some memorials. In 1994, seven weeks after my youngest son was born I sat with my family grieving the death of a really great friend, my husband's father.  In 2005 I rode a record ride across CT  in a nor' easter laden with prayers on my legs in memory of a little six year old boy who had died of cancer a few days before. In 2006 my mother-in-law beat breast cancer. In March of this year my friend Hanna, a 20 year old with advanced colon cancer, lost her battle. Then therre is Roseanne who has been battling Ovarian cancer for two years AND MOST RECENTLY my mother, who has just begun her battle with lung cancer. I am riding with both memories pinned to my heart and in honor of those still fighting.
A word about my mom. She has started her treatment at Dana Farber, and I have to speak to the care that she has been given, its an amazing place. Her prognosis at this time is good, despite it being scary for all of us. Dana Farber, her doctors and the research team have more than contributed to the tremendous support our circle of friends and family have given us they have been proactive in helping us deal with the disease. I'm a proud supporter of the PMC because it is leading a charge to beat cancer. In fact, last year 100% of rider-raised revenue went directly to support the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's tireless commitment to finding a cure.
