Kevin Sareault's Ride

Why I Ride ...

 Family & friends,

On August 6-7th, I will ride my 13th Pan-Mass Challenge to raise money for the Jimmy Fund in the battle against cancer.  The PMC the most efficient athletic fundraiser in the nation with a 100% pass thru rate.  That’s right, every cent of your donation will go directly to experimental cancer research and treatment at The Dana Farber Cancer Institute.   My goal is to raise $6,500 for the Jimmy Fund.

In my years of involvement with the PMC, a number of personal traditions have evolved.  That said, when my family moved to Alaska in 2006 I was unable to make it back to Sturbridge (breaking an 11 year tradition) so I rode the 192 miles in Sitka.  In my thank you letter that year, I wrote that the PMC wasn’t about a specific tradition, route or mileage…that it was about a cure " a cure for cancer.  In similar fashion, my 2011 PMC brings something new…vice riding the traditional route from Sturbridge to Provincetown, this year instead of heading to P-town on Sunday morning, I will point my bike north and ride from Bourne to Wellesley with my nephews Chris, JD and Andrew.  All three will be PMC volunteers on Saturday and then ride 70 miles on Sunday " in honor and in memory of Chris’ Dad, Bud Thomas, who lost a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer on July 24, 2010.  I am proud of them for taking on the challenge and very much look forward to riding with them.

These remain challenging times to raise money for a charity like the PMC.  Unfortunately, cancer doesn’t discriminate with the times.  As it has with mine, undoubtedly cancer has impacted your family and friends.  Please consider contributing to help find a cure.  It is very easy to support the PMC; simply click ‘donate’ on this screen and make a secure donation via credit card.  If you prefer, you can send a check payable to the PMC/Jimmy Fund to 49 John Ewer Rd, Sandwich, MA 02563.  All donations are greatly appreciated and are fully tax deductible.  More importantly, every donation makes a difference.  If you would like to dedicate your donation in the name of someone dear, please send me their name in the note section of the donation form.  I will carry each name with me during the ride.

The PMC is so much more than a bike ride - It is a journey of hope and determination and a celebration of life and spirit while in pursuit of a cure for cancer.  Thanks for your time and consideration.  Please give thought to joining the fight to find a cure. It's out there somewhere… maybe just over that next hill.

Miss you Bud...

Kevin

P.S.  Our family’s involvement with the PMC has extended to the next generation…Timothy and Hannah participated in their first “PMC Kids” ride held at my old elementary school, Martha Jones, in Westwood, MA on May 15th.
