Keri Prasky's Ride
Why I Ride ...
I want to everyone who has sponsored me in the past for this bicycle trek across Massachusetts, the Pan-Mass Challenge. Since 1980, the PMC has raised nearly $240 million for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber. I wanted to give everyone personal updates from this past year.
In good news, my sister-in-law, Diana Cloutier, has completed her treatment for Breast Cancer and her prognosis is very good. My other sister-in-law, Grace Cloutier, has also completed her treatment for colorectal cancer, and her prognosis is also very good.
Unfortunately, we lost a family member, David Holloway, to cancer this past December. But this is why I ride. To keep the survival stories going and in remembrance to those we have lost.
This year the 31st annual PMC will be held starting on Saturday, August 7th through Sunday, August 8th. During the PMC weekend, in addition to the 5500 riders there will be over 2600 volunteers who donate their time, and 200 corporations who provide in-kind donations of products or services. Many riders (including myself) ride in honor of family members or friends who have fought this disease. It is a truly inspiring ride. While there are today many athletic fundraising events, the PMC is arguably the most successful in terms of the money raised and the percentage of funds it contributes directly to charity. In 2009, 100 percent of all funds raised by PMC riders went directly to the Jimmy Fund. Not one cent of each dollar raised through riders' sweat and determination was used for administrative and organizational expenses.
