Kevin Kelley's Ride

Why I Ride ...

Dear Family and Friends,
I love you guys. I cannot believe this will be my sixth year riding and that together we've raised almost $30,000. It's that time of year again and I need to get training...it's gonna be a tough ride this year...August is hot...hopefully I won't melt on the road. I need your help now more than ever. Although we're getting closer we just haven't cured that damn thing yet. And you know as well as I do that we can shed all the tears we want for our family and friends, but the best thing we can do right now is send a check and pray to God that these miracle workers come up with a cure soon.

As many of you know about eight years ago my father-in-law and best friend Paul McMahon was diagnosed with lung cancer. It might have taken the spring out of his step but it certainly didn't take the twinkle from his eye, and the never ending work ethic from his body. He's out in the yard every day running the bobcat, or teaching me a better way to build a mousetrap. He's the smartest guy I know and I thank God that he is healthy today. Paul's a survivor because of you and the Dana-Faber Cancer Institute. He continues to fight and his checkups are going good.

I will again ride my bike 192 miles in the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge during the first weekend in August to raise money for cancer research. I am in need of sponsors and am asking for your support. The PMC is the single largest contributor to the Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Most of us know someone who's been affected in some way and we pray that it doesn't touch us too close. You probably have someone's struggle weighing on your heart too.

Last year with your help we raised $6,300. Our friends and family have taken this challenge seriously and I hope you want to be a part of the cure as well. I will train and do the hard work. All I ask from you is a check. Please consider donating the cost of a nice dinner out. If you can dedicate twenty-five or fifty dollars to helping find a cure, you will be in good company. Any donation will be appreciated.

This year I am riding on the Boston Bruins riding team, and because of that they have asked me to collect donations online through First Giving (http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/kevinkelley/32ndpan-masschallenge) and that the donations be made out to the Boston Bruins Foundation. This is only so that the riding team/Bruins Foundation can then make a check presentation to the PMC/Dana-Faber at one of the games this year on the ice. I hope this does not inconvenience you too much or make you second guess your donating, because if it does, you can certainly still just make the check out to the PMC or Jimmy Fund and I will send them in as I always have. I will be happy to pick up donations or you can mail them to my home address. You can also make your donation online right here if you want to.

Thank you so much for helping, your donation will provide research to find a cure.

Please accept our sincerest thanks,

Kevin and Colleen Kelley
