Why I Ride ...
Dear Friends and Family:
I have decided to take steps in the fight against cancer by joining my 2nd Pan-Mass Challenge Ride.
On August 6th I will be riding 111 miles as part of the 2011 Pan Mass Challenge. I will be riding from Sturbridge, MA to Bourne, MA to raise money for cancer research at the Jimmy Fund/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
I am writing today to ask you for your financial support in my fundraising effort, and for your moral support in my training and riding.
Like last year I will be riding with team LEGS (Legs Ending Great Suffering) to help with training, but also to have a "Pedal Partner." This year our Pedal Partner is Thomas and my LEGS are Turbo for Thomas. Pedal Partners are children who are being treated at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's pediatric oncology center, the Jimmy Fund Clinic. The PMC Pedal Partner Program matches Jimmy Fund Clinic patients with PMC cyclists who ride in their honor. For the children, being a Pedal Partner provides a distraction from treatments, while also introducing them to new friends. The children become part of a large group fighting for a cure for the disease for which they are being treated. Pedal Partners often meet teams at rest stops on the ride, and that provides a great motivator to keep my legs moving!
This year I will be riding with a list of names of people who are fighting the fight against cancer and also those that we have lost to this horrible disease. If you would like me to include the name of a friend or loved-one this year please let me know their name and I will add them to my list.
