I ride because I can...
It is the middle of winter and the sun is shining brightly. School vacation week is well underway and we are antsy, craving the summer which seems so far away. And then it happened... I proudly watched my first born daughter learn to ride a two-wheeler for the very first time. Now, I wish I could stop time and relish in her moment over and over again. I don't care that it is cold or if snow is predicted.
P E R S P E C T I V E has a way of tapping me on the shoulder, reminding me to be ever so thankful for the good health that surrounds my family and the physical & mental strength that allow us to take on such challenges as the PMC ride. Yet, no challenge seems greater than the battle of cancer when it is delivered to a child. I am honored to ride in the PMC this year for Team Luca. Luca DeLisi passed away in 2005 after battling a rare form of a pediatric brain tumor named Medulloblastoma. He was three years old.
I never had the opportunity to meet Luca in person. However, I have had the pleasure of getting to know his parents, Megan and Jeff, as well as his baby sister, Olivia. It is through them that I have come to know that Luca was funny and sensitive, wise beyond his three years. Because of Luca, I choose to live my life with a refined set of values and absolute appreciation. While I cannot thank him in person for this incredible gift, I can raise awareness by sharing his story.

D O N A T I O N S: All of Team Luca's funds will be directed exclusively to Dr. Mark Kieran's innovative pediatric brain tumor research. Dr. Kieran is the Director of Pediatric Medical Oncology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute's Jimmy Fund Clinic and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. As one of Luca's neuro-oncologists, Dr. Kieran is unique being a clinical physician, as well as a researcher. A central objective of Dr. Kieran's pediatric brain tumor research initiative is to collaborate, collect and share information with researchers and physicians worldwide.
