Jennie Thomas's Ride
Why I Ride ...
Due to continuing issues with my various body parts I am unable to ride this year, but am in search of a recumbent bike which I hope will help me build up my strength this summer so that next year I might be able to ride the PMC again. However, I am very devoted to this cause and so I have signed up as a "virtual rider" which allows me to help raise funds for the PMC and I've signed up to volunteer both pre-event and during the event which this year takes place on Sat., Aug. 6th - Sunday, Aug. 7th.
I was
especially inspired this spring to keep up my involvement with the PMC by the
graduating class of Presidential Scholars (PScholars), the students with which
I work throughout their time at Boston College. At the senior reception this May they presented me with a
donation for the PMC, as they knew that this organization is important to
me. I was so touched by their
generosity of spirit.
Additionally, my sister-in-law was diagnosed with lymphoma recently and
a friend of mine is currently fighting her second battle with breast cancer;
she is being treated by the Dana Faber.
Thankfully, in both cases the prognosis is very positive. However, the importance of raising
money to fight this awful disease clearly continues.
