Jennie Thomas's Ride

Why I Ride ...

PMC 2011: Welcome to my Pan Mass Challenge profile page! This year marks my 12th anniversary of involvement with the PMC.  As you may know, the PMC is an extraordinary organization that raises funds for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and I am once again helping to raise funds for this worthy cause.

Due to continuing issues with my various body parts I am unable to ride this year, but am in search of a recumbent bike which I hope will help me build up my strength this summer so that next year I might be able to ride the PMC again.   However, I am very devoted to this cause and so I have signed up as a "virtual rider" which allows me to help raise funds for the PMC and I've signed up to volunteer both pre-event and during the event which this year takes place on Sat., Aug. 6th - Sunday, Aug. 7th.

I was especially inspired this spring to keep up my involvement with the PMC by the graduating class of Presidential Scholars (PScholars), the students with which I work throughout their time at Boston College.  At the senior reception this May they presented me with a donation for the PMC, as they knew that this organization is important to me.  I was so touched by their generosity of spirit.  Additionally, my sister-in-law was diagnosed with lymphoma recently and a friend of mine is currently fighting her second battle with breast cancer; she is being treated by the Dana Faber.  Thankfully, in both cases the prognosis is very positive.  However, the importance of raising money to fight this awful disease clearly continues.

I know that everyone has a story about or connection with cancer and I hope that someday through all our efforts these stories will be a distant memory. I am involved with the PMC each year in honor of all those fighting cancer and in memory of those who lost the battle. Please help me to raise funds so that research and support for cancer and cancer patients can continue. Last year's PMC gift to the Dana Farber represented 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar so you can be assured that your contribution will be used for cancer research and care for cancer patients. I hope that you will join me in helping to raise funds to fight cancer by making a donation.  There are 3 easy ways to donate: 1. Click on the big box below that says "Donate to my ride". 2. Send me a check made out to the PMC. 3. Request (from me) a credit card slip that I can send you via the mail which you return to me for sending to the PMC. Thank you for your support! < >Jennie
